CW Series Brochure [4.1mb]

CW Series motors

The CW and CWC Series of Single and Three Phase TEFC motors are outstanding examples of the diverse range and product reliability that has built the CMG name.

CMG’s general purpose single and three phase CW series motors are available in 2, 4, 6 and 8 pole, 0.18 to 2.2 kW.

The CW range has a modular design, incorporating interchangeable parts, which makes it an ideal base for the CWC range of special application and customer specified motors, incorporating special physical and electrical designs.

Applications
CWC Special Application Range:
  • Evaporative Cooler Motors
  • Compressor Duty Motors
  • Bricksaw Motors
  • Cement Mixer Motors
  • Fan Motors
  • Grain Feeder Motors
  • Sewage Aeration Motors
  • Pump Motors
  • Brake Motors
Other Applications:
  • Floor polishers
  • Centrifugal and axial fans
  • Pool and spa pumps
  • Two speed saws
  • Shearers Grinders
  • Hydraulic hoist
  • Farming equipment
  • Wood lathes
  • Drill presses
  • Ideal general purpose motor
Mechanical Design
Mounting arrangements
CW series motors are available in foot mount (B3), flange mount (B5 and B14) and foot/flange combination (B3/B5). Special application motors requiring alternative mounting arrangements are available on request.

Degree of protection
Standard enclosure protection rating for the CW motor series is IP 44. Other levels of protection are available on request.

Materials and construction
Materials for the CW series of CMG electric motors are outlined in the drawing below.

Paint finish
Standard CW and CWB motors are painted hammertex grey. Other colors are available on request. Protective coatings to meet stringent requirements for resistance against acid, salt water, climatic conditions or special client requirements are available.

Terminal and capacitor boxes
Terminal boxes offer four lead entry points. Two cable clamps plus two conduit entries. Optional terminal boxes providing an opening for switches are available.

Rotor balancing
Rotors have been balanced fitted with half key, to a good commercial level. Special balancing can be performed on request.

Cooling
Standard CW series motors are Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC). Internal cooling is achieved through movement of air by rotation of the rotor blades. Drip Proof Fan Cooled (DPFC) is also available. DPFC is physically the same as TEFC except that the endshields are ventilated. Models using DPFC are indicated in the performance data section. Cooling systems used also include Totally Enclosed Surface Cooled (TESC) and Totally Enclosed Air Over Motor (TEAOM).

Bearings
CMG CW series motors are provided with high quality shielded bearings (ZZ), prepacked with grease. Bearings with full contact neoprene seals (DDU or 2RS) are available for enclosure ratings such as IP 55. Bearings are lubricated with lithium based rolling contact bearing grease and are suitable for operation within the ambient temperature range of -20°C to 40°C. Low or high temperature grease is available on request.

Electrical Design
Operating parameters
Standard CW series motors are designed to the following parameters:
  • Continuous duty (S1)
  • Three phase 415 volts / single phase 240 volts, 50Hz power supply
  • Ambient temperatures up to 40°C
  • Installation at altitudes up to 1000 metres
Insulation and Temperature Rise Class
The CW motor series have Class F insulation as standard, with a Class B temperature rise (80K), unless otherwise stated.
Rotation
Standard single phase motors are supplied to give clockwise rotation, as viewed from drive end. They can easily be reconnected to anti-clockwise rotation by interchanging two leads in the terminal box.

Overload protection
Auto reset (internal and external) and manual reset (external) overload protection devices are an available design feature of CW motors. Internal devices are a thermostat type, while external are current limiting.
